The Story Behind the Festival

A celebration inspired by Provence and rooted in the heart of Olalla.

From Provence to Olalla

The Olalla Lavender Festival was born from a love of lavender, community, and the simple joys of gathering together.

Growing up in the South of France, founder Huguette Marsicano was surrounded by the sights, scents, and traditions of Provence. Lavender was part of everyday life, woven into gardens, markets, family recipes, artisan crafts, and summer celebrations.

Those influences have remained a constant source of inspiration throughout her life and continue to be reflected in projects she has created over the years, including French Moods, a celebration of French culture, food, and the art of gathering.

Years later, after making Olalla home, she discovered a community that shared many of the same values: a connection to the land, appreciation for local makers, and a desire to create meaningful experiences that bring people together.

The Olalla Lavender Festival emerged as a natural bridge between these two worlds.

Inspired by Provence

Provence is known around the world for its lavender fields, but its true magic lies in something deeper: a way of life rooted in beauty, simplicity, and connection.

From village festivals and open-air markets to family gatherings around a shared table, everyday life in Provence celebrates the joy of slowing down and appreciating the moment. Lavender is woven into this cultural fabric, not only as a crop, but as a symbol of tradition, craftsmanship, hospitality, and creativity.

These values continue to inspire the Olalla Lavender Festival today. More than a celebration of lavender blooms, the festival embraces the spirit of gathering, learning, creating, and sharing experiences with others.

Whether through artisan demonstrations, culinary experiences, live music, local farms, or meaningful conversations, we hope to capture a little of that Provençal spirit and bring it to life in Olalla.

Rooted in Olalla

While inspired by Provence, the festival is firmly rooted in the community that made it possible: Olalla.

Nestled between forests, farms, and the waters of Puget Sound, Olalla is a place where creativity, independence, and community thrive. Its rural character, natural beauty, and welcoming spirit create the perfect setting for a festival centered around lavender and local connections.

From the very beginning, local farmers, artists, musicians, businesses, volunteers, and community organizations have played an essential role in shaping the festival. Their enthusiasm, generosity, and willingness to collaborate have transformed an idea into a vibrant annual gathering.

The Olalla Lavender Festival celebrates not only lavender, but also the people who make this community so special. Every farm visited, every conversation shared, every local artisan discovered, and every volunteer contribution helps create an experience that is uniquely Olalla.

Looking Ahead

Growing, evolving, and blooming together.

The festival continues to grow while remaining true to its original vision: creating a welcoming celebration where people can gather, learn, create, and connect.

We invite you to join us as we continue this journey, one lavender season at a time.
